Nutrition and Metabolism
from £85

Have you been diagnosed with Type II Diabetes, High cholesterol, Hypertension, Fatty Liver, Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, Gout, or Obesity? Maybe you have reached midlife or menopause and are struggling with your weight? Perhaps you are keen to reduce your risk of chronic disease, cancer or dementia risk and optimise your health span. We can support you at the St Andrews Private GP Clinic.

With expertise in Functional Nutrition and Lifestyle medicine alongside a wealth of experience in conventional medicine we are offering a more holistic approach to improving your health. Extending our tools beyond the generic diagnosis and prescription pad we take a biopsychosocial approach to your health, aiming to uncover and halt any factors that may be contributing to disease. This means that we take time to get to know you and really understand why your health is not where you want it to be. We will delve deep into your medical history including genetics, family history, lifestyle, diet, sleep, stress, life events, toxin exposure and social connections. An extensive array of tests will help to uncover any imbalances that may be contributing to poor health or high risk of disease. Focus will be on metabolic health because a slow insidious decline in the state of our metabolic health tends to be the commonality amongst those who develop chronic disease.

What is metabolic health?

Simply put metabolic health refers to our body’s ability to use the food we eat to create energy. When our food intake matches our energy requirement, we have metabolism that is in balance. However, problems occur when we over consume nutrient poor, energy dense foods. This excess energy is then stored in our body as fat and eventually disrupts organ function causing chronic disease.

At the St Andrews Private GP Clinic, we assess your metabolic health through a range of measures including:

• Blood glucose control
• Insulin resistance
• Lipids
• Visceral fat and body composition
• Blood pressure
• Liver function
• Uric acid levels (gout)
• Energy imbalance (food intake vs energy output)
• Mitochondrial function
• Oxidative stress
• Gut microbiome
• Inflammation
• Adrenal stress testing
• Essential Fatty Acid Testing
• Genetic risk

How it works

Step 1: Initial Consultation
We spend 90 minutes together doing a deep dive into your medical history. It is your opportunity to share your health story. We’ll assess your body composition using non-invasive gold standard technology (when consultations are face to face). Together we will agree on the areas you wish to work on. We’ll set initial goals during the session, consider factors that may have triggered and are maintaining your symptoms. At the end of the consult, we may recommend specific testing (this is not always necessary).

Step 2: Planning Consultation
Following our initial session, I will develop a Health Optimisation Plan for you. In this session you will receive your personalised plan which will include an explanation of results of testing and an in-depth discussion about what may be causing your symptoms along with proposed management strategies. Each plan will include:

• Dietary guidance including recipes to suit your tastes
• Personalised lifestyle recommendations including advice on sleep/stress/exercise
• Supplement recommendations
• Materials that may support your mindset (not always required)
• Any further testing recommendations

Step 3: Follow-Up Consultations
Typically, every four weeks we will meet for 30 minutes-1 hour depending upon your needs. This will allow us to monitor your progress and make any changes to the initial plan

Individual consultation costs
